This is the latest in an array of differences between the licenser (DoT) and the regulator (Trai) as the organisations had earlier aired their differences on mobile number portability, access deficit charges (ADCs) and dual-technology rollout obligations.
According to sources, Trai has shot off another letter countering DoT's argument that bringing in foreign players would encourage greater competition. It is of the opinion that currently there are around 12-13 operators per circle, meaning there is sufficient competition in the industry.
Trai has also stated that there are already 342 applicants awaiting issuance of UASL
