In more trouble for sacked IPL Chairman Lalit Modi, the Enforcement Directorate has initiated the process of revoking his passport and is examining the FIR filed by the Cricket Board for alleged misappropriation of funds to the tune of Rs 470 crore by him.
Official sources said the ED, which is investigating Modi in connection with alleged violation of Foreign Exchange Management Act, has written to the Mumbai Passport Office to revoke Modi's passport as he was not "cooperating".
While Modi, who is in the UK, had said he was cooperating with the ED and was available for questioning in London itself or through video-conferencing, the ED said that sending a team abroad was not possible.
"The move to revoke Modi's passport has been made following non-cooperation," a source said.
The ED, which has already issued a Blue Notice against Modi through the Interpol, is also examining the FIR filed against him and is looking at the specific charges made against him by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
On Thursday, opening a new front, BCCI secretary N Srinivasan had lodged a criminal complaint with the Chennai Police Commissioner against Modi.
The BCCI charged Modi with misappropriation of Board's funds, mainly in allotting media rights and free commercial rights. The complaint was filed in Chennai as the Board is registered there.
