If inflation is a major issue in the general elections, ruling parties in West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh (UP) may have reasons to worry. The two fared poorly among eight big states (with more than 25 Lok Sabha seats each) so far as the latest data on the Consumer Price Index (CPI)-based inflation for March are concerned. The two had inflation higher than the national average of 8.31 per cent. While West Bengal had inflation in double digits, UP had close to nine per cent. Tamil Nadu had the least at 6.40 per cent.
