Army is on alert for a possible worsening of the flood situation in Bihar, where some two million people across 11 districts are reeling under the worst catastrophe face by the state in 200 years.
The incessant rains that have been lashing the catchment areas of Kosi, the most swollen river, and others, leading to dramatic rise in the levels of waters, are the apparant reason for the expected scenario.
Government is expecting more areas in these districts would be inundated today.
State disaster management officials said as the situation was fast deteriorating the army at Danapur cantonment has been requested to keep army boats and helicopters ready for intensifying the relief and rescue operations.
Two army helicopters were ready in Lucknow to fly to the affected areas within 20 minutes of receiving the notice from here, they said.
