The group of ministers (GoM) on the proposed airport in Greater Noida decided to examine the traffic projections made by the Uttar Pradesh government and Delhi International Airport Ltd — a GMR-led consortium that runs the Delhi airport. This was the first meeting of the GoM.

“The UP government has given its traffic projection and DIAL its own. These projections will now be examined by the civil aviation ministry and the Airports Authority of India. Experts’ opinion will also be sought. This will help us determine whether the proposed airport will be viable,” said Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel.

According to the latest report prepared by the state government, air traffic at the proposed Greater Noida airport in 2011-12 will be 8.65 per cent of the total NCR traffic. The earlier report had projected it at 7.96 per cent.

Patel, when asked about the date of the next meeting, said studying the traffic projections would at least take three months.
