HC adjourns hearing over 2G allocation policy

The Delhi High Court today adjourned the final hearing over the petition challenging the government's policy of allocating 2G spectrum on a first-come-first-serve basis.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice A P Shah and Justice Manmohan adjourned the hearing after the petitioner, Arvind Gupta failed to appear before the court.

The court has directed it to list on October 20 along with the S-Tel matter, which is related to fixing a cut-off date to apply for telecom licences bundled with start-up 2G spectrum.

In his petition, Gupta challenged the spectrum issue policy of the government and alleged that DoT had allotted start-up spectrums to new operators at much below the prevailing market prices.

He said the violations were apparent in the case of Swan Telecom and six subsidiaries owned by real estate major Unitech --some of them later sold the alloted spectrum at much higher prices.
