Hudco Gives Rs 721 Cr For Water Schemes In Gujarat

The Housing and Urban Development Corporation (Hudco) has sanctioned a loan assistance of Rs 721.50 crore towards five major water supply and drainage schemes in the earthquake affected regions of Gujarat.

Hudco chairman and managing director V Suresh said the total project cost of the five schemes works out to Rs 953.61 crore and they include major bulk water transmission pipeline projects in Kutch, Rajkot and Jamnagar districts, besides an underground drainage scheme in Jamnagar.

These schemes would significantly improve the quality of life of the people living in the earthquake affected and drought hit regions of the state, he said.

The bulk water transmission scheme for Rajkot and Jamnagar districts to be implemented by Gujarat Water Supply and Sewerage Board (GWSSB) at a project cost of Rs 429.41 crore would get a loan assistance of Rs 343 crore. It would cover five talukas in Rajkot and Jamnagar districts through a network of 113 km of transmission lines and would benefit 11 towns and 438 villages with increased availability of drinking water.

Similarly the bulk water transmission pipeline project for Tankara-Jamnagar section in the Saurashtra region with a project cost of Rs 135.50 crore would get a loan assistance of Rs 95 crore. This scheme would also be implemented by GWSSB and would benefit 203 villages as well as Jamnagar town.

The Rs 169.11 crore Maliya-Bhachau bulk water transmission pipeline project in Kutch to be implemented by GWSSB has been sanctioned a loan of Rs 135 crore. It envisages laying of 63.2 km of pipelines covering nine talukas, 10 towns and 949 villages.

The Rs 177.22 crore Bhachau-Anjar-Kukma bulk water transmission pipeline section in Kutch district would get an assistance of Rs 124 crore and it would be implemented by Gujarat Water Infrastructure Company (GWICL).

This scheme would benefit 948 villages and 10 towns, Suresh elaborated. Giving details about the underground drainage scheme for which Hudco has sanctioned a loan assistance of Rs 24.5 crore, he said that it is being implemented by the Jamnagar Municipal Corporation and the project cost works out to Rs 42.37 crore.

The project aims to provide drainage system and disposal facility in Jamnagar town through the underground drainage scheme with appropriate treatment facilities. A total of 30,000 house connections are proposed to be provided under the scheme, Suresh said.
