The Kalinganagar industrial complex (KNIC) known for concentration of steel units of both public and private sector entities is located in Jajpur district. The decision to formulate a CMP for the region was taken during discussions between top state officials and Union steel secretary G Mohan Kumar on April 11 this year.
“We have initiated the process of selecting an internationally renowned master planning firm through open international competitive bidding which is expected to be completed by July 2014. It is planned to have the CMP prepared for approximately 15000-16000 hectares (ha) in and around the existing KNIC area on a GIS (Geographic Information Systems) platform with detailing of infrastructure and plot level planning”, Vishal Dev, Idco's chairman and managing director (CMD) stated in a letter to Syedin Abbasi, joint secretary, Union steel ministry.
Idco, the state government's nodal agency for land acquisition and industrial infrastructure development will seek financial assistance from the Steel Development Fund of the central steel ministry.“Considering the area for which the CMP will be prepared and given the scope of the work, it is estimated that fees payable to the master planning consultant shall be to the tune of Rs 10 crore. However, the exact fees shall be ascertained after completion of the bid process. To meet the expenses towards preparation of the CMP for KNIC, it is proposed that an amount of Rs five crore may be provided to Idco from the Steel Development Fund (SDF”, Dev said in the letter.
Idco has allotted 9906.49 acres of private land to 17 different industries at the Kalinga Nagar Industrial Complex (KNIC) in Jajpur district. The land has been allotted between 1990-91 and 2010-11.
Tata Steel has been allotted 2499.97 acres of private land in four phases at a cost of Rs three lakh per acre.
