To achieve the target, IRCTC has chalked out plans to provide better services to customers. “For the purpose of strengthening the passenger reservation system, ministry of railways has taken various measures on the website to control ticket booking using automated software. This includes doubling the servers in integration layer and adding storage space. We have earmarked Rs 180 crore for the purpose. Out of the total, Rs 100 crore has already been spent and another Rs 20-30 crore would be spent on upgrading the system,” said A K Manocha, chairman and managing director, IRCTC.
“In the next three years, we are expecting that the share of internet ticketing would touch 80 per cent of the total passengers travelled," he added.
Internet ticketing on IRCTC website has progressively increased over the years and so has online tickets’ share in the total reserved tickets.
