Lahore hostage crisis over, six terrorists nabbed

The terrorist siege of a police training academy near here ended today with Pakistan army commandos killing four of the gunmen and capturing six alive after they had gunned down 27 policemen and injured 90 others in a brazen early morning attack.

"The operation has ended with overpowering of a number of terrorists. While four were shot dead, several more were arrested," Interior Ministry chief Rehman Malik said.

Some of the terrorists were in police uniform, he said adding, one of the arrested is 19-20 year old and speaks Pashto. A joint investigation team has been formed to probe the attack, Malik added.

Six terrorists have been captured alive, officials said.

They said security personnel are clearing the area to assess the exact number of casualties.

Troops fired into the air and shouted 'Allah Ho Akbar' as the operation was successfully completed.

The heavily armed gunmen stormed the police training centre at Manawan, lobbing grenades and firing indiscriminately and took an unspecified number of security personnel as hostages.
