Major Shake-Up In Up Police Administration

In the second major shake-up of the police administration in less than a week, 26 officers were transferred in Uttar Pradesh today.

Prominent among the districts where police chiefs were changed are Almora, Pilibhit, Faizabad, Gorakhpur, Gonda, Hardoi, Pratapgarh and Azamgarh, an official source said.

The DIG of Azamgarh is among the four DIGs who were changed yesterday.

With this, the total number of police officers transferred mounted to 70. Last week, 44 officers were transferred in the first major reshuffle since the BSP-BJP coalition government headed by Chief Minister Mayawati assumed office on March 21.

The shake-up in the police administration came in the wake of Mayawatis criticism of law and order during Presidents rule in the state.

R K Vishwakarma, SSP Faizabad, moves to Gorakhpur replacing A P Maheshwari who comes to Lucknow as SP-CB-CID.

B P Maurya, SP, Ambedkar Nagar, takes over as SSP Faizabad while Chandrika Rai, SP (Cooperatives), takes over from Maurya.

Sujanvir Singh, SP intelligence, goes to Gonda as district police chief replacing Ram Ji Lal who swaps place with him.

V P Singh, who was awaiting his posting, goes to Almora as district police to replace Avinash Chandra who moves to Pilibhit as district police chief.

S A Rizvi, district police chief of Pilibhit, becomes the new SP Udhamsingh Nagar to replace Anju Gupta, who moves to Rudrapur as commandat 31 battn PAC.
