Manipur government has banned import of poultry products including eggs, feed and chicken from Assam following spread of Avian influenza in three districts of that state, official sources said today.

An order banning poultry products from neighbouring Assam was issued yesterday by director of veterinary and animal husbandry service of the Manipur government.

Besides banning poultry products from Assam, Rapid Response Teams (RRTs), which were constituted in Manipur in April last year, were also kept in a state of readiness for taking immediate action to control a possible outbreak of bird flu in the state.

Avian influenza has been reported in three districts of Assam-- Kamrup, Nalbari and Barpeta.
