The Maharashtra Economic Development Council (MEDC), in association with the state government will organise a two-day international business conference in Marathwada, "Global Front: Challenges & Opportunities" in October.
 
CM Vilasrao Deshmukh and industries minister for Ashok Chavan will inaugurate the conference, which aims to put Marathwada on the global map.
 
The conference will explore growth opportunities in the sectors like agri-business, textiles, consumer electronics, auto ancillary and engineering, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, education, entrepreneurship and tourism.
 
The conference will be attended by trade commissioners of different consulates, senior officials from banks and financial institutions and funding agencies, government and other stake holders, regulatory bodies, management consultants, exporters, major corporates as well as small and medium enterprise owners along with national and international delegations. About 300 people are expected to attend the conference.
 
Besides cotton, which is the economic backbone of the region, many industries like Bajaj Auto, Nath Group, Videocon, Wockhardt, Lupin, Garware, Nirlep, Kenstar, Colgate Palmolive, Skoda, Endress Houser, Ajanta Pharma, BDA, Ceekay Daikin, Crompton Greaves, Siemens, Sterlite Industries and FDC, have been playing a significant role in the development of the region.
