My Budget: Reema Nanavaty

What did you think of the Budget?
It seems to be a common man’s Budget with a thrust on rural infrastructure and housing. There is significant emphasis on education and agriculture. It shows a bent towards rural voters and the rural population.

What were your expectations?
We were keen to know how women could be given more emphasis. In a way the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme helps but a better focus was required.

Have your expectations been met?
No, except for the tax exemption bracket being raised to Rs 1,90,000 for women.

Any specific concern?
We were hoping for allocation in micro and small sectors, which didn’t see the light of day. In fact, if these sectors had been provided a push, they could have contributed positively in the economic slowdown by acting as a buffer.

What does the Budget mean to you on a personal level?
It is an aam aadmi Budget, but one would have expected a better package for women.
