The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has not yet received any official information regarding the handing over of the documents on the secret Swiss accounts in which the Bofors kickback money was alleged to have been deposited.

CBI sources said yesterday that the agency would, after getting a formal message, consider sending its officials to Berne, Switzerland, to take possession of the bank documents expected to be containing explosive information regarding the Swedish gun deal which had changed the course of Indian politics in 1989.

Reports from Geneva show that the secret bank documents kept in sealed boxes by Swiss justice ministry officials would be handed over to the Indian Embassy there on January 21.

The Bofors case, being handled by the CBI, relates to alleged payment of commission by Swedish howitzer-gun manufacturer

Bofors of to middlemen involved in clinching the deal.

A part of the payoffs was traced to some coded bank accounts in Geneva and Zurich.
