Growth in tax and non-tax revenue collection in Odisha slowed to a modest 4.23 per cent in the April-December period of FY 14 compared to 21.28 per cent rise posted in the comparable period of previous fiscal.

Collection was tepid as land revenue, taxes on motor vehicles and mining revenue decelerated in the period.

While land revenue slumped 12.57 per cent to Rs 228.68 crore from Rs 261.57 crore, taxes on vehicles went down from Rs 516.82 crore to Rs 459.38 crore, fall of 11.11 per cent. Mining revenue, the biggest contributor to the state's non-tax revenue kitty, too fell 5.18 per cent from Rs 4,123.19 crore to Rs 3,909.57 crore.

Tax and non-tax revenue totaled to Rs 16,167.14 crore by the end of December, 4.23 per cent higher than Rs 15,511.49 crore clocked in the corresponding period of last fiscal.

The state’s own tax revenue grew 12.14 per cent in the period from Rs 9,728.65 crore to Rs 10,778.75 crore. Stamps & registration, state excise and sales tax rose by 12.78 per cent, 18.31 per cent and 11.68 per cent respectively.

The state’s own tax and non-tax revenue has been pegged at Rs 27,512.65 crore for 2014-15, 12 per cent rise over Rs 24,580 crore in 2013-14.
