State-run Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation will soon introduce "tele-banking" for paying power bills.

Chairman and Managing Director Deepak Singhal has said with the implementation of the IT-enabled mode of payment, the consumers will no longer have to visit the cash collection centres of the five power distribution companies in the state.

He said tele-banking as a pilot project would be launched in Lucknow and later would be extended to other major towns of the state.

Singhal said with the implementation of this system, the recovery of power dues would improve substantially. He said the long queues at the bill collection centres were a major factor deterring the consumers from paying each month.

For improving the recovery of power dues in the rural areas, Singhal said there was a proposal for appointing "Bijlee Mitra" in villages for the distribution of power bills and collection of dues. It was likely to be a contractual appointment, and agents would be given a fixed commission, he said.
