Highlighting the need for conversation and management of water resources in the country, government today asked the corporate sector to come forward and work out a public-private-partnership (PPP) model to increase availability of water to people.
"To explore the untapped water potential in the country, we require a multi-pronged strategy. Corporate sector must come forward to take their social responsibility," Secretary of Ministry of Water Resources, Umesh Narayan Panjiar, said.
"The public-private-community model can play an important role in creating awareness among people, exploring untapped water resources and addressing issues related to waste water management," Panjiar said at the inaugural session of the Water Summit 2009 here.
The two-day summit on 'Catalysing Investments in Water Sector', has been organised by the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) seeking involvement of industries in various aspects of water conservation in the country.
An educational CD aimed at creating awareness about water conservation among school children was also launched on the occasion by the CII's Green Business Centre (GBC).
Representatives of a number of domestic and foreign agencies and government officials including Delhi Jal Board CEO Ramesh Negi and Director of Urban Development Ministry Nivedita, are participating in the summit.
