Railways earnings up by 7.83%

The Indian Railways have earned nearly 7.83 per cent more revenue during April-September this year as compared to the earnings in the same period last year.

The total earnings of Indian Railways during April–September this year were Rs 44,323.70 crores compared to Rs 41,104.78 crores last year.

The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs 27,629.01 crores during April-September 2009 to Rs 29,443.32 crores during April–September 2010, an increase of 6.57 per cent.
   
The total passenger revenue earnings during first six months of the financial year 2010-11 were Rs 12,689.36 crores compared to Rs 11,573.60 crores during the same period last year, registering an increase of 9.64 per cent.
   
The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs 1234.89 crores during April-September 2010 compared to Rs 1121.64 crores during the same period last year, an increase of 10.10 per cent.
   
The total approximate number of passengers booked during April-September 2010 was 3904.57 million compared to 3683.53 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 6 per cent.
    
In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during April-September 2010 was 1989.30 million and 1915.27 million compared to 1887.57 million and 1795.96 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 5.39 per cent and 6.64 per cent respectively.
