Ramesh Thackeray Arrested

Ramesh Thackeray was arrested at his residence in Ghatkopar in north-east Mumbai.

Ramesh Thackeray, president of Humane Awareness Society, had also threatened to take out a Dandi-march prior to commiting self-immolation in protest against the refusal of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to lease out the sports complex for a Laser-Dandiya programme during the navratri festival to promote awareness against Aids.

He had pointed out that his organisation was denied the use of sports complex on the ground that it was under repairs, whereas the site was made available to the wizcraft entertainment company for staging the michael jackson show. A public writ petition filed by thackeray on this issue was admitted by mumbai high court, yesterday and will be heard on december two next.

The shiv udyog sena, a trust floated by raj thackeray, nephew of sena supremo, was to receive the proceeds of the show. However, mumbai high court, yesterday directed wizcraft, promoter of the jackson show to deposit an amount of rs four crore with the state government until december three, when the petition will come up for hearing.
