RMC to monitor its vehicles with GPS

The project will be executed under the central government's JnNURM

Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has decided to monitor its vehicles with global positioning system (GPS).

Regarding this, RMC municipal commissioner Ajay Bhadu had presented detailed report of the projects to the state government.

"We have decided to install GPS in all our vehicles to monitor them. This project will cost us around Rs 46.64 crore and state government has also given its nod for the same," said an RMC official.

The project will be executed under the central government's Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM).

RMC commissioner Ajay Bhadu had submitted detail project report to the urban development minister Anandiben Patel at Gandhinagar three days ago.

The state government will pass on the report to the central government for approval.

If the project is approved the central government would also provide will provide funding worth Rs 23 crore.

According to RMC officials, under the project GPS systems will be installed in big size dumpers, JCB machines, water tankers and some other vehicles.

Meanwhile, standing committee of the RMC, on Friday, has increased the budget of the corporation from Rs 1,090 crore to Rs 1,152 crore.

Standing committee chairman Jaiman Upadhyay said, "Municipal commissioner had proposed to increase the vehicle tax, but we feel that it is not required at this time. We have included five new over bridge-projects which cost about Rs 62 crore and that's why size of the RMC budget for 2013-14 has increased."
