Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia announced for deceased union leader's kin

Haryana government today announced ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh for family of union leader Narender Singh, who died after being hit by a bus he was trying to stop from plying as part of two-day nationwide strike called by central trade unions.

Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced the compensation for next of kin of the 55-year-old state Roadways driver who died in Ambala city yesterday, Industries and Commerce Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala said.

The chief minister also announced a government job for Gurpreet Kaur, the daughter-in-law of the deceased, as per her qualifications, he said.

A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the incident, as demanded by the leaders of the Roadways employees, he said.

Till the completion of the inquiry, the proceedings of the cases registered against the employees and their leaders would not be pursued, Surjewala said after meeting officers of district administration, police, leaders of the Roadways employees and relatives of the deceased driver in Ambala.

Also, any action in this regard would be taken after the receipt of the report of the enquiry, he said.

The employees of the Roadways have also agreed to resume their duties, Surjewala said.

Out of the total Rs 10 lakh to be given to Singh's family, half would be given by the state government, while the remaining would be given out of the Chief Minister's Relief Fund, he said.
