"We will give our recommendations on spectrum in a day or two," Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Chairman Pradip Baijal said today, addressing a seminar on 3G technology here.
"While allocating frequency, Trai has ensured that we are synchronised with the rest of the world regarding this as per international telecom union guidelines.
"This will ensure that operators in India get the cheapest equipment compatible to 3G technology," he added.
Both GSM and CDMA operators have demanded the 1900 mhz band be reserved for their respective technologies.
"As a regulator, we are clear there is a severe problem in getting spectrum for second generation of mobile telephony. When the spectrum is allocated for 3G, it will be up to the operator on how to utilise it," he said.
"The main problem in telecom is not spectrum. The issue is that operators have not recognised the power of rural market though many have announced plans to go into the interiors," he added.
