A day after Tarun Das stepped down from the position of the chief mentor of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), industry stalwarts hailed him as the man with a vision who made significant contributions to the Indian industry over the years.
“Tarun Das is one of those rare people of considerable ability who have dedicated their lives to public good. The Indian industry owes him a debt of gratitude, for his leadership has been instrumental in driving its development and global emergence,” said Ratan Tata, chairman, Tata Sons.
Tarun Das, who has been associated with CII for 35 years, was one of the people who conceptualised the formation of the body. He took on the role of the chief mentor in 2004 after being the director-general for 26 years. He is known for his proactive role in influencing government policies on various issues at different points in time.
Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani also said Das was the face of modern Indian industry. “He dreamt of a place for the Indian industry at the global high table and collectively we have achieved it. He so ably reflected the belief of modern India and countless Indians that nothing is impossible to achieve. He was a pillar of strength for all, CII in particular,” added Ambani in a statement.
Das will continue to be associated with CII and spend most of his time on international relationship building and matters related to domestic development.
