Technological upgrade and a revamp of the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) are on the cards in the near future. The corporation, which has recently introduced the practice of electronic ticketing at Lucknow, plans to develop an exclusive website for the online reservation of bus tickets.

“We have got some proposals from the Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT) and nodal government agencies like the Uttar Pradesh Development Systems Corporation Ltd (UPDESCO).The interested parties are about to file their final copy of terms and conditions, the corporation thereafter will take its decision,” a senior officer from UPSRTC told Business Standard. The official further informed that they may take up private body for this initiative; however they need to apply tenders for it.

Once the facility is operational, the passengers will be able to get a reservation done on line, just like in the case of railways.

“Since the process is quite technical, it will take a few months to start the actual website.

The payments done by the customers online will be delivered to us through specially designed software,” he added.

As for the process of electronic ticket, for the first phase the trial run has already been started at the Alambagh terminal of Lucknow. This will soon be replicated to Kaiserbagh bus stand as well. This covers about 200 buses at present.

“Once done with these, the initiative will be taken for Ghaziabad and Noida routes too,” he said.

At least 1,200 (UPSRTC) buses will go high-tech with introduction of e-tickets.

The officer further added that such facility will help in maintaining proper record of passengers list, besides estimating money collected.
