Telecom Commission agrees to M&A proposal

The Telecom Commission has agreed to a proposal not to allow merger of licences of two entities if the market share of the combined entity was above 35 per cent.
The Department of Telecommunications had made a similar suggestion. The sectoral regulator Trai had, however, suggested allowing mergers even if the combined market share of the entity went up to 60 per cent.
