The project includes dredging the channel to a depth of up to 14.70 metre and to a width of 230 metre and to a length of 3.40 km from the port entrance besides dredging a part of the existing harbour basin area including the turning circle to a depth upto 14.10 metre.
The implementation of this project will enable Tuticorin port to handle main line fourth generation container vessels of 56,000 DWT with length overall of 290 metre, beam of 32.50 metre and bulk carrier upto 75000 DWT with maximum draught of 12.80 metre.
