The banned United Liberation Front of Assam (Ulfa) has threatened to destroy all oil installations and hit vital economic sectors in the state if atrocities on Assamese people were not halted immediately.

Demanding immediate halt to army operation in the state, a release from Ulfa central publicity secretary, Mithinga Daimary warned here on Thursday, the underground outfit would be forced to retaliate if the harassment of the Assamese people continued.

Stating that the Ulfa was against killing and violence, he said the organisation at the same time had to use arms in self-defence till the state continued suppression of the people.

Stating that the state machinery would not not be able to restore peace in Assam by allegedly committing attrocities on its people, the Ulfa called upon government to understand the actual problem.

Referring to talks with the government, the release said, if the pre-conditions put forward by the Ulfa were fulfilled then it would initiate steps for talks within a week. The release alleged violation of human rights at the hands of the state forces.

The Ulfa called upon journalists, political and non- political organisation leaders, intellectuals, student leaders and others to spend a night in the villages to understand the plight of the assamese masses at the hands of the army.

On the killing of an army officer at Ganesh temple in Tezpur recently, he said those who took part in committing atrocities on the innocent masses could not protect themselves by taking shelter in temples.
