The Uttar Pradesh government today made a budgetary proposal to establish 33,000 micro enterprises during the next fiscal (2009-10) to generate about 130,000 employment opportunities.
At present, there are an estimated 350,000 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the state that provide employment to millions in rural, semi-urban and urban areas.
These MSMEs mainly span leather, paper, chikan, handicraft, machinery, auto ancillary units, plastic, brassware, textile, glassware, food processing, carpet, medicine and chemical industries.
According to its proposal, the state government will also develop 78 clusters under the Cluster Development Scheme. Under this programme, the government gives generous grant, besides other facilities and sops, such as training, marketing and credit.
The cluster development programme pertains to forming a group of homogeneous industries to enjoy a host of benefits. It is aimed at improving the competitiveness through technology upgrade, facilitate development of new products, improve production process, improve quality of products and establish marketing linkages in domestic as well as international markets.
The state government further proposes providing employment to 30,000 weavers by producing 620 million metre handloom cloth.
Besides, it will introduce ‘Modernisation and Integrated Development Scheme for Powerloom Sector’ for which a provision of Rs 5 crore has been made in the Budget.
Under the Mukhya Mantri Gramodyog Rozgar scheme, the state targets establishing 6,500 new village industrial units to provide employment opportunities to 52,000 people.
