Neet 2018: Twitteratis offer financial aide to Tamil Nadu NEET aspirants

National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test aspirants across India are all set for NEET 2018 exams, which has been scheduled for May 6. Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) led by T T V Dinakaran on Friday announced that it will help with lodging facilities NEET aspirants from Tamil Nadu who have been allotted exam centres in neighbouring Kerala. Dinakaran said the AMMK has made arrangements for Tamil Nadu students who need accommodation and route guidance to the exam centres. In a statement here, Dinakaran - the nephew of now jailed former AIADMK General Secretary V K Sasikala - claimed that the action of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) with respect to the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) was a "reflection of the central government's anti-Tamil Nadu attitude". The AMMK leader said several hundred medical college aspirants from Tamil Nadu have been allotted centres in states like Kerala and even Rajasthan.

 

Opposition party leader MK Stalin urged the state government to help students with their travel arrangements. "This is an injustice done to the students of Tamil Nadu. The students are burdened with the need to arrange for transportation and stay at these unknown places. The government should ensure help is provided to these students," he said.

 

Tamil Nadu NEET aspirants' woes

 

The CBSE had issued admit cards to Tamil Nadu students allocating then examination centres in states like Kerala, Karnataka and Rajasthan.

 

Challenging the CBSE decision, a PIL was filed in the Madras High Court, which directed the board to set up additional exam centres in the state to accommodate all the students from the state. The high court decision came as a ray of hope for these students, but the board moved the Supreme Court in the last minute, saying the exam centres cannot be changed in such a short notice.

 

Now, students are now left in a limbo. Reports say that about 1,500 students have been allotted seats in Kerala, Karnataka and Rajasthan.

 

According to TNM, NEET Director Sanyam Bharadwaj said, "this year the number of candidates have risen by 31%. We increased the number of centres in Tamil Nadu by 25 and have even asked centres to accommodate students to its full capacity. After taking these measures, we have been able to accommodate 1,10,000 students within the state. The rest, maybe about 1000 or 1,500, were given the nearest available centres in neighbouring cities."

 

Financial support pours in for Tamil Nadu NEET students

 

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s office has announced a toll-free helpline — 14417 — to assist students. Since the students have been left in a fix, Twitter users decided to pool in to help underprivileged students.

 

Actor Prasanna tweeted that he would like to sponsor the travel expenses of two underprivileged students.

 

“Would love to sponsor travel expenses for at least two underprivileged students or govt school students appearing for NEET this year. Inbox me the details like hall ticket, place where your exam hall assigned. Will book the tickets for you.”

 

Other users have also offered to sponsor a student, or have offered help in the cities that the students have been allotted centres in.

As many as 32,570 of the 83,859 candidates from Tamil Nadu who took the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET)-UG qualified in the examination for admission to MBBS courses, giving the state an overall pass percentage of 38.84%.

About NEET

 

All medical aspirants must appear in NEET as it is the only medical entrance exam in India apart from AIIMS and JIPMER. The role of CBSE is upto conduct of exam and declaration of result. After that, counselling authorities will conduct counselling. All medical and dental colleges in India, that have recognition from MCI/DCI must accept NEET scores only for admission, they cannot hold separate exams.

It may also serve as the login for admit card can download, however, usually CBSE launches separate link for that.

 

NEET 2018: Result

 

Central Board of Secondary Education will announce NEET 2018 Result on June 5, 2018. Result of NEET 2018 shall be announced on basis of performance in exam as per evaluation of answer sheets. Candidates are awarded marks out of 720. Result is hosted on website www.cbseneet.nic.in. Candidates need to log in using roll number which is shown in NEET 2018 admit card, and date of birth.
