PM Modi hails Yogi Adityanath for being first UP CM to be re-elected after completing term

After the Bharatiya Janata Party storm back to power in Uttar Pradesh for the second consecutive term, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday hailed Yogi Adityanth for being the first Chief Minister to be re-elected in the state after completing a full-term.

 

While addressing party workers from the BJP headquarters in Delhi, PM Modi said, "UP has given many prime ministers to the country, but this is the first time that a Chief Minister who completed a five-year term has been re-elected. After 37 years in UP, the government has come to power for the second time in a row."

 

PM Modi has been slamming Samajwadi Party and Congress for dynastic politics.

 

Slamming the Opposition for "deteriorating" the level of politics, the Prime Minister said that they misled people on issues of crisis such as vaccination and 'Operation Ganga'.

Cong relegated to margins in UP: Its seat tally down to 2 from 7, vote share to 2.35% from 6.25%

The Congress, which has ruled Uttar Pradesh for the longest period of time among political parties but has been out of power for three decades, plunged into further wilderness in the state, winning just two seats.

 

While its seats tally came down to two from seven in 2017, its vote share declined to 2.35 per cent from 6.25 per cent.

 

The two seats it won are Rampur Khas and Pharenda.

BJP wins all 8 seats in Lakhimpur Kheri

Notwithstanding the political heat generated over the Tikunia violence which had left four farmers among eight people dead ahead of assembly polls, the BJP made a clean sweep by winning all eight seats in Lakhimpur Kheri.

 

In the results declared on Thursday, BJP posted an impressive victory in Nighasan assembly seat where violence had erupted during farmers' agitation on October 3.

 

BJP's Shashank Verma defeated his closest Samajwadi Party rival R S Kushvaha by 41,207 votes in Nighasan.

 

Lakhimpur Kheri had been one of the key attack points of the Opposition parties such as the SP, Bahujan Samaj Party and Congress against the BJP in the run up to the polls.

 

Eight people, including four farmers, were killed in a violence that erupted in the Tikunia area of the district on October 3 last year.

Akhilesh keeps eye on results from party office, no comment from him yet

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav remained in the party office till Thursday evening monitoring the poll results in which his party led alliance lost to the BJP-headed coalition.

 

There was no comment from him on the poll outcome till late night on Thursday.

 

Party's national spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary told PTI that Yadav had come to the office around 11.00 in the morning, and remained there throughout the day. He left for home in the evening.

All nine seats in Agra district go to BJP

All the nine Assembly seats in Agra district have gone to the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), a repeat of its 2017 performance.

 

From Agra North, Purushottam Khandelwal won by over one lakh votes, while Yogendra Upadhyaya repeated his 2017 performance in Agra South.

 

Former Uttarakhand Governor Baby Rani Maurya won the Agra Rural seat, while Rani Pakshlika Singh sailed to victory in Bah.

PM Modi slams those dragging caste, religion into every issue

Hours after the results for the Assembly elections announced on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged concerns over dynastic politics and also slammed those who raise questions on India's abilities and those who bring in religion and caste in every issue.

 

The Prime Minister, while addressing the party cadre at the BJP headquarters here, came down heavily on people, who try to stop action against the corrupt.

 

"There has been a conspiracy to stop action against corruption. Some people have the uncanny tendency of filing up their own treasure/chests. People of India are expecting from us (BJP) that our honest government will punish the corrupt. Should we not rise up to this expectation of the common people," Prime Minister Modi asked to a loud cheering party workers, who were assembled to celebrate the party's victory in four out of five Assembly elections.

All 5 BJP MLAs retain seat in Ghaziabad

All five BJP MLAs, including minister Atul Garg, retained their seats in Ghaziabad, even as Sunil Kumar Sharma, contesting from Sahibabad constituency, won with a record 2.14 lakh vote margin, poll results showed on Thursday.

 

Sharma got 3.22 lakh (or 67.03 per cent) of the total votes counted, defeating his nearest rival Amarpal Sharma of the Samajwadi Party who polled 1.08 lakh votes, the Election Commission website showed.

Respect public opinion: RLD chief Jayant Chaudhary on UP poll results

Rashtriya Lok Dal president Jayant Chuadhary on Thursday said he respected the public opinion after his alliance with the Samajwadi Party lost the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls.

 

The RLD had fielded candidates on 33 seats in western Uttar Pradesh and won eight of them, according to information on the Election Commission website.

 

"I respect public opinion. Congratulations to all the winning MLAs! It is expected that they will work according to the trust of the people. The workers have worked hard, and the struggle will continue!" the RLD chief tweeted in Hindi.

UP polls: Keshav Prasad Maurya and other BJP bigwigs who lost

The Bharatiya Janata Party retained power in the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, but saw a drop in number of seats compared to the previous elections, as well as several top leaders bite the dust.

 

The biggest casualty was Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya who lost Sirathu to his Samajwadi Party rival, Pallavi Patel, by a margin of 7,337 votes.

 

Among others who lost the polls this time were Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, and Rural Development who was defeated by Samajwadi Party's Jai Prakash Anchal from Bairia constituency by 12,951 votes. Read on...

After 3 decades of influencing UP politics, BSP relegated to margins

After being an influential player in Uttar Pradesh politics for three decades, Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party has been relegated to the margins with the party set to witness its poorest performance ever in assembly polls.

 

The party had won 19 seats in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh assembly polls and had managed a vote share of over 21 per cent. But this time, the BSP has been restricted to single digits with a vote share of 12.73 per cent.

BJP MLAs from Noida, Dadri and Jewar in Gautam Buddh Nagar district Thursday emerged victorious from their respective seats in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections 2022, according to official results.

 

Pankaj Singh won the Noida seat with a whopping margin of 181,000 votes, while Tejpal Nagar recorded a victory with 138,000 votes, the Election Commission website showed.

UP election result 2022 LIVE: BJP set for big win in Uttar Pradesh, party alliance leading in 267 seats

The ruling BJP appeared on course to retain power in Uttar Pradesh, with poll trends on Thursday showing the party-led alliance leading in 267 seats as against 127 of its nearest rival Samajwadi Party.

 

The state has 403 assembly seats and 202 seats are needed to form a majority government.

 

The trends or results for all 403 seats are available. The BJP has won five seats so far.
