The Global Trust Bank (GTB) is pinning its hopes on its newly appointed managing director and chief executive officer, Sudhakar Gande, to put it on a high-growth path again.

Sudhakar, who will assume charge in the first week of March, has worked at American Express Bank for more than a decade in various capacities. The last position he held was that of a senior director.

"He is a modern, young banker. His exposure, both in domestic and international markets, to corporate finance, investment banking, business strategies and debt restructuring will help him lead the GTB team," a senior GTB official said.

After leaving American Express in 1995, Sudhakar promoted Lexicon Consultancy in Mumbai. As a consultant, he was involved in roping in Bank Brussels Lambert (BBL), a subsidiary of ING Barings, as a strategic partner of Vysya Bank a few years ago.

GTB recently split the chairman and managing director's (CMD) post into that of a non-executive chairman and a managing director. It proposes to appoint a retired banker as its non-executive chairman soon.
