The government has appointed S L Mohan, general manager of United India Insurance, as the new chairman and managing director of Oriental Insurance. Mohan is expected to assume charge this week.
The government has also appointed R Beri as the new chairman and managing director of New India Assurance Company. Beri was officiating as the chairman after K N Bhandari retired earlier this year.
The third public sector general insurance company, National Insurance, however, continues to be without a full-time chairman for nearly a year with H S Wadhawa, a general manager in the Kolkata-headquartered institution, as the officiating chief.
Oriental Insurance would have a full-time chairman after a gap of over six months. Joint secretary in the finance ministry Ajit Mohan Sharan was officiating since the last chairman and managing director, B D Banerjee, retired in October last year.
Of the four state-run general insurance companies, only United India Insurance had a full-time chairman, V Jaganathan, while the other three had to contend with officiating ones for months.
The government has also not finalised a successor for D Sengupta, chairman of General Insurance Corporation, who is slated to retire at the end of the month.
Life Insurance Corporation of India's officiating chairman, A Ramamurthy, is also set to retire at the end of month but no successor is so far in sight.
