Massachusetts State Police and Cambridge Police are investigating the shooting.
The MIT campus police officer was responding to a report of a disturbance in an area in the MIT campus.

Police said there are no other victims and no arrests have been made.
According to information on the shooting incident posted on MIT's website, agencies are "actively investigating" the situation, which the institution said remains "very fluid." Police continues to sweep the campus.
MIT asked its students and faculty to stay indoors and remain inside until further notice.
Earlier MIT said gunshots were heard near a building on campus and injuries were reported.
"Injuries have been reported," MIT said describing the situation as "active and extremely dangerous."
