Dear Students,

LAST WEEK WE ASKED:

Should more players get into the teacher training segment?

BEST RESPONSE

Inducting more players into the teacher training segment will usher in a more competitive, effective and result-focused training program. This move will be in the betterment of the teachers, thereby translating into a positive effect for the students. Moreover, since the numbers of teachers to be addressed are colossal, it makes it necessary to fill the wide gap of supply, by bringing in more players. However, there must be control of a regulatory body to monitor the entry of players with the mandatory experience, expertise and skill-set.

- Akshay Chadha, NSIT, Delhi

OTHER RESPONSES

More people should get involved in this training segment as incumbent teachers in most of colleges/universities are not trained, resulting in a lacunae as far as imparting knowledge is concerned. In a way, this affects the future generations of students. Moreover, these training programmes should be made mandatory for teachers to attend so that they themselves can have best knowledge and the same can be passed on to the students.

- Ritesh Arora, ICM, Dehradun

Teacher training to a certain extent is necessary because it results in certain guidelines and duties being made mandatory to be followed. This, further, brings a certain degree of professionalism to the academics. But for better results, the method of teaching should be left for the teacher to decide because one cannot impose a certain method of teaching on everyone and every teacher has always has a unique way of teaching.

- Shankarnath Nair, Amrut Mody School of Management, Ahmedabad

Learning knows no boundary for all and sundry. With the fleeting time and advancement in technology, new ways of teaching and managing the educational institutions have surfaced. There has been no looking back by the authorities and present day teachers in equipping themselves with the best available training programmes imparted by numerous corporations. There's always a room for expanding the sphere of teacher training segment.

-Dipika Sahoo, College of Engineering and Technology, Bhubaneswar

The Indian education sector is undergoing a sea change in the recent past. The focus has shifted from the public sector to the private sector providers in education due to rise in spending of people towards education. Nowadays it is easy to start an education institution with the primary education being made compulsory in India. Also the level of higher education is increasing, making it advisable for more people to get into the teaching segment.

- Nirav N Choksi, SV Institute of Management, Kadi

The teacher student ratio in various institutes is not up to the mark. So in order to maintain it there is a need of sufficient quantity of quality teachers. The number of teachers is less as compared to the required amount as well as the present status of teachers is not good. The teachers need to undergo sufficient training prior to their employment. Thus, the players entering this segment are bound to flourish.

- Shivam Chhabra, Integral University, Lucknow

Today most of the teachers lack soft skills, they lack leadership skill to deal with vast diverse pool of student and teachers, they lack modern style teaching to impart knowledge. There is a acute shortage of teachers at primary, secondary and higher levels. The teachers did not know what are the requirements of the students. Further rural area is in dire need of quality teachers so teachers training can play vital role to train teachers.

- Nilaya Mitash Shanker, Shri Ram Swaroop Memorial College of Engineering and Management (SRMCEM), Lucknow

If and when more players enter this segment, it is bound to give a boost to competition and private players will obviously bring with them some measurable changes in skills and confidence among the teachers. This, in a way, might make their communication stronger with the students. A teacher can develop the skills in student only if he/she has that much talent and training.

- Sarman Goraniya, Charusa University, Anand, Gujarat

The need for more players in the teacher training segment is enhanced with the education sector facing a huge quality and supply gap of teachers at all levels including primary, secondary and higher levels education. Moreover, government education sector is not efficient to train all the teachers which, further, offers an opportunity for private players to get in to the teacher training segment.
