, has been instrumental in shaping my thought process and my overall outlook on life.

The book, which covers the first 52 years of Gandhi's life, captures his reverence towards certain principles such as truth and non-violence. He speaks of his life as a series of experiments with these various principles. His thoughts have enabled me to look back upon and analyse my own life.

In this book, Gandhi mentions that overcoming his fears, demons, and uncertainties lies in the hands of each individual "" and this has assisted me in progressively evaluating my own insecurities so as to improve myself. Reading this book, I could identify with many of the predicaments that Gandhi outlines.

He says, "What I want to achieve "" what I have been striving and pining to achieve these 30 years "" is self-realisation." This is a notion that many of us struggle with in our lives as well, and it emphasises the fact that Gandhi, too, was human "" resulting in a flicker of hope for me.

Many of Gandhi's teachings appear straightforward; however, acting on them is not so simple. Each of my actions is now preceded by deliberation on the possible outcomes, often leading to alternative behaviours.

Understanding what he teaches has become the key of my day-to-day tasks. Not only can Gandhi's lessons be applied to life-altering decisions, but they can also influence smaller, everyday choices as well. Whether it is business dealings, public service, or my personal life, Gandhi's book has motivated me to seek out the surrounding truth that is waiting to be unearthed.
