Alstom India down after Q2 net profit halves

Net profit fell to Rs 27.84 crore in Q2 against Rs 54.56 crore in Q2 last fiscal

Shares of equipment maker Alstom India were down over 2% at Rs 350 after the company said its net profit nearly halved to Rs 27.84 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2013.

The company had reported a net profit of Rs 54.56 crore in the same quarter of the last financial year (2012-13), Alstom India said in a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges.

Total income of the company dropped to Rs 592.16 crore during the period as against Rs 741.66 crore in the same period last year.

Earlier this month the company bagged a 100 million euro contract from GVK Power and Infrastructure for supplying equipment for GVK's 850 MW Ratle hydropower plant in Jammu & Kashmir.

The contract includes the supply of 4 turbines of 205 MW each, and one turbine of 30 MW. All equipment will be manufactured at Alstom's Vadodara facility in Gujarat.
