Aurobindo surges on FDA approval

Aurobindo Pharma rose 4 per cent to Rs 690.8 on volumes of around 32,000 after the company said its anti-AIDS drug efavirenz in capsule form had received tentative approval from the US Food and Drug Administration.

Efavirenz is the generic version of Bristol Myers Squibb's brand drug Sustiva.

Earlier, on Thursday, the company along with two other Indian firms Ranbaxy and Zydus Cadila had got US FDA nod to market 5, 10, 20 and 40 mg versions of the cholesterol drug from December 23.

Between 28 November and 21 December, the stock has outperformed the Sensex.
