Though the concentration in high-volume stocks was always there, foreign institutional investors (FIIs), especially hedge funds, were fairly active in the second-rung stocks.

 However, with the decline in market volume over the past three months and with the second round of MSCI (Morgan Stanley Capital Index) rebalancing in the offing in May, fund managers are paring their exposure in the sideline counters.
