HDFC advances 2%; breadth extremely -ve

The NSE Nifty is down 73 points at 4,274.

Jaiprakash Associates has slumped over 7% to Rs 155. Ranbaxy has plunged 5% to Rs 516.

Tata Steel and Larsen & Toubro have tumbled nearly 5% each to Rs 740 and Rs 2,442, respectively.

Hindalco has shed 4.4% at Rs 154. Reliance Infrastructure and Maruti have slipped 4% each to Rs 925 and Rs 699, respectively.

Reliance has dropped 3.7% to Rs 2,018, and Mahindra & Mahindra has declined 3.5% to Rs 555.

BHEL is down over 3% to Rs 1,360.

HDFC has moved up nearly 2% to Rs 2,225. Satyam has gained 1.4% at Rs 462.

ONGC and Infosys are up over 1% each at Rs 878 and Rs 1,848, respectively.

The market breadth is extremely negative - out of 2,493 stocks traded so far, 2,145 have declined, 306 have advanced and 42 are unchanged.
