Robust buying in shares of ITC, Kotak Mahindra Bank, State Bank of India, Bajaj Finance, ICICI Bank, and M&M helped the benchmark S&P BSE Sensex scale fresh lifetime peak of 50,687.51 level. At close, the index was 358.54 points, or 0.71 per cent, up at 50,614 levels.
 
The broader Nifty50, on the other hand, continued its march towards the crucial 15,000-mark and ended at new closing high of 14,896 levels, up 106 points or 0.7 per cent. The index hit a lifetime high of 14,914 in the intra-day trade today.

PSBs extend gain on privatisation hope; Indian Bank surges 37% in 4 days

Shares of public sector banks (PSBs) continued their upward movement for the fourth straight day on Thursday after the government on Monday announced plans to privatise two PSU banks in the financial year 2021-22 (FY22). At 02:18 pm, Nifty PSU Bank index was up 3 per cent as compared to a less than 1 per cent gain each in Nifty50, Nifty Bank and Nifty Private Bank indices. In the past four trading days, Nifty PSU Bank index has rallied 18 per cent as compared to a 9 per cent gain in the benchmark Nifty50. READ MORE
