Markets extend gains; NTPC surges 4%

The NSE Nifty is up 66 points at 4,158.

HDFC Bank, Ranbaxy and Cipla have soared around 5% each to Rs 1,085, Rs 459 and Rs 226, respectively.

NTPC has surged 4.5% to Rs 181. SBI, ICICI Bank and Jaiprakash Associates have rallied 4% each to Rs 1,353, Rs 642 and Rs 167, respectively.

Hindustan Unilever has gained 3.6% at Rs 228. Maruti has moved up 3% to Rs 642, and TCS has added 2.3% to Rs 814.

Reliance Communications, ITC and Wipro are up 2% each at Rs 444, Rs 180 and Rs 373, respectively. Reliance is up 1.6% at Rs 2,146.

Satyam has plunged 3.6% to Rs 369. BHEL and Ambuja Cements have slipped over 2% each to Rs 1,499 and Rs 81, respectively.

Larsen & Toubro is down over 1% at Rs 2,516.

Out of 2,560 stocks traded so far, 1,343 have declined, 1,135 have advanced and 82 are unchanged.
