Markets steady; breadth +ve

The NSE Nifty is up nine points at 3,956.

ICICI Bank has zoomed 8% to Rs 595, and HDFC Bank soared 7.5% to Rs 1,030. HDFC has surged 6.7% to Rs 2,016.

DLF, Reliance Infrastructure and Cipla have rallied over 2.5% each to Rs 439, Rs 828 and Rs 217, respectively.

BHEL has gained 2% at Rs 1,482. NTPC and SBI have advanced over 1.5% each to Rs 167 and Rs 1,246, respectively.

ONGC, Tata Motors and Jaiprakash Associates are up 1% each at Rs 915, Rs 416 and Rs 151, respectively.

Satyam has slumped 8.5% to Rs 379. Wipro has plunged 4.7% to Rs 362. Infosys has tumbled 3.4% to Rs 1,529, and TCS has slipped 3% to Rs 755.

Ranbaxy has shed 3.5% at Rs 436. Tata Steel has dropped 2.5% to Rs 592.

Grasim and Hindalco are down over 1% each at Rs 1,701 and Rs 138, respectively.

The market breadth is positive - out of 2,383 stocks traded so far, 1,291 have advanced, 998 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
