Markets steady; Ranbaxy gains 3%

The NSE Nifty is up 34 points at 4,126.

HDFC Bank has soared 3.7% to Rs 1,072. Cipla and ITC have surged over 3.5% each to Rs 223 and Rs 183, respectively.

Ranbaxy has rebounded and rallied over 3% to Rs 452. Hindustan Unilever and Reliance Communications have gained around 3% each at Rs 226 and Rs 448, respectively.

Wipro and ICICI Bank have advanced over 2.5% each to Rs 375 and Rs 633, respectively. SBI has added 2.3% to Rs 1,330.

ACC and Tata Steel have moved up around 2% each to Rs 550 and Rs 604, respectively.

NTPC has gained 1.7% at Rs 176. HDFC and Mahindra & Mahindra are up 1.5% each at Rs 2,097 and Rs 528, respectively.

DLF and Satyam have shed 2% each at Rs 448 and Rs 375, respectively. Bharti Airtel is down over 1% at Rs 792.

The market breadth is negative - out of 2,153 stocks traded so far, 1,185 have declined and 901 have advanced.
