To facilitate the exports of non-basmati rice, the government has lowered the minimum purchase quantity of the commodity to 2,000 tonne from 10,000 tonne.

This was announced by food minister Shanta Kumar at a seminar, here.

In May last week, the Centre had brought down the price for raw rice at Rs 5,650 per tonne while the rate of parboiled rice was brought down to Rs 6,000 per tonne from the ex-granary price of Rs 6,750 ($143.8) per tonne.
