MMTC invites bid for importing 12,000 tonnes of pulses

State-run MMTC has invited bids for importing 12,000 tonnes of pulses like tur, urad and chikpeas from Australia and Myanmar.

MMTC has invited bids for importing 3,000 tonnes of Desi Chick Peas, Black Matpe (Urad) SQ , Black Matpe FAQ and Pigeon Peas (Toor). The pulses, which are to be sourced from Myanmar and Australia, must be grown in 2010 crop year, the company said in a notification.

Bids could be submitted on August 13, 2010, and should be made for a minimum quantity of 2,000 tonnes, the company said.   

MMTC and other public trading agencies import pulses on behalf of the government to meet the domestic shortage of about 3-4 million tonnes.

The country's total pulses production is around 14 million tonnes.
