The Sensex opened at 17,365 tracking mixed global cues and then soared to a high of Rs 17,492. The index is now at 17,481,up 137 points.
Among the Sensex 30- stocks, NTPC is the major gainer, up 3.5% at Rs 241. Tata Steel, Jaiprakash Associates and Reliance are the other prominent gainers on the Sensex, up 1% each at Rs 622, Rs 144 and Rs 1,089, respectively.
Maruti is the only marginal loser on the Sensex, down at Rs 1,568.
