Sensex pare gains; ITC, Tata Steel up 5%

The NSE Nifty is up 69 points at 4,228.

BHEL and Tata Steel have soared nearly 5% each to Rs 1,579 and Rs 628, respectively.

ITC has surged 4.5% to Rs 187. Wipro and Hindalco have rallied 3.8% each to Rs 387 and Rs 148, respectively.

Reliance Communications has moved up 3.5% to Rs 462. Reliance Infrastructure and TCS have gained around 3% each at Rs 887 and Rs 837, respectively.

Cipla and ICICI Bank have advanced 2.7% each to Rs 233 and Rs 661, respectively.

Grasim, SBI, ACC and HDFC Bank are up around 2.5% each at Rs 1,770, Rs 1,380, Rs 555 and Rs 1,108, respectively.

Maruti has plunged 8% to Rs 596. Tata Motors has tumnbled 3.3% to Rs 406.

Jaiprakash Associates, Bharti Airtel and DLF have dropped around 2% each to Rs 163, Rs 781 and Rs 455, respectively.

Out of 2,502 stocks traded, 1,702 have advanced, 717 have declined and 83 are unchanged.
