Sensex steady; Ranbaxy soars 10%, breadth -ve

The NSE Nifty is up two points at 3,863.

Ranbaxy has soared nearly 10% to Rs 449. Bharti Airtel has surged 3% to Rs 732.

ONGC and ITC have gained 2.8% each at Rs 869 and Rs 165, respectively.

Satyam has rallied nearly 2% to Rs 406, and Cipla has added 1.6% to Rs 211.

Hindustan Unilever, SBI and HDFC have moved up 1.3% each to Rs 215, Rs 1,193 and Rs 1,822, respectively.

HDFC Bank, Larsen & Toubro and Reliance are up 1% each at Rs 927, Rs 2,302 and Rs 1,998, respectively.

DLF and Mahindra & Mahindra have plunged 4% each to Rs 410 and Rs 500, respectively.

Tata Motors has tumbled 3.7% to Rs 389. Reliance Communications has slipped 1.5% to Rs 400.

Out of 2,416 stocks traded, 1,356 have declined, 974 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
