The Sensex is now up 172 points at 10,990.
The index today opened 24 points higher at 10,842 before slipping into the red. Then the index rebounded and touched a high of 10,997, up 238 points from the day's low.
Wipro has gained over 7% at Rs 302. Tata Steel has rallied 4.5% to Rs 252. Reliance Communications has advanced 4% to Rs 222.
Infosys, Reliance Infrastructure, ICICI Bank, TCS, Tata Motors and Sterlite have added 3-4% each.
However, Sun Pharma and Bharti Airtel have declined nearly 2% each to Rs 1,159 and Rs 699, respectively.
The market breadth is marginally negative. Out of 2,301 stocks traded, 1,147 have declined and 1,048 have advanced.
